FIREFIGHTER

Performs firefighting, fire prevention, emergency medical services and rescue work; maintains and cleans Fire Department buildings, grounds, and equipment.   

Requirements:  Age 18 or older, High School graduation or G.E.D., no felony convictions, no serious misdemeanor convictions for the past five years, vision correctable to 20/30 and excellent physical condition.  Candidates must possess or obtain the following certifications before being included in second interviews:  (IFSAC) Firefighter I and II and Emergency Medical Technician-B.    

SALARY:  $14.94 Hourly Wage during the 40-hour per week training period.

                     $10.67 - $16.06 Hourly Wage once assigned to the 24-hour work schedule.

• The City of Tyler Fire Department will start handing out application on November 13th for the test which will be held in mid December. They are planning to hire 14-15 firefighters off of this list. Tyler is a fast growing east Texas town of about 100,000 people...they will be opening Station # 10 with the personnel hired from this list. Two good reasons to choose them:
  
  1. They only require the ECA level medical certification (WOW) and do not run an ambulance service.
  2. They will pay for the fire academy and medical certification once hired. (Kilgore Fire Academy).
  3. It's not that far of a commute from DFW.....I did it for a number of years.
